Preventing Homelessness
Supporting individuals and families to find and sustain accommodation

Challenge
Homelessness is increasing, there isn’t enough supply of social housing and the local services are under pressure. Within this context, working together and acting early is needed to prevent people from losing their homes.
Process
Preventing Homelessness is a multi-partnership project exploring: How can we identify people at risk of homelessness and offer the right support early on?
From May to September 2018 two multiagency Design Labs have been testing ideas that identify and support people at risk of homelessness. They build on research we carried out in Winter 2017 with people who have lived experience of homelessness and the professionals who support them.
Impact
New relationships and shared ways of working amongst partners have resulted in preventing individuals and families from losing their home, improved relationships amongst partners and better job satisfaction of members of staff. Four ideas were tested, these pilots respond to our belief that homelessness is everyone’s business. They provide practical ways for partners to connect and collaborate for prevention.
